It’s 11:48, right before lunch. You’re rushing to the Guerin to print something you need for a lunch meeting. You run up the building three stairwell that’s suspiciously dark and are almost at the top, when suddenly you’re stopped in your tracks. Bam! You’re spellbound by a wonderful array of beautiful colors, all exploding at you.
What is this masterpiece and who created it?
It’s the “Psalm 18:28” mural, created by a team of talented student artists led by art teacher, Ms. Anaya. This mural, which is over ten feet long, features a rainbow of colors focused on a lit candle.
This mural also features a quote from Psalms, “It is You who lights my candle, The Lord, my God will enlighten my darkness. (כִּֽי־אַ֭תָּה תָּאִ֣יר נֵרִ֑י יְהוָ֥ה אֱ֝לֹהַ֗י יַגִּ֥יהַּ חָשְׁכִּֽי)
“The mural was created to celebrate the presence of God’s light within each individual and our shared responsibility to be a source of light for one another and for the broader community,” said Ms. Anaya.
She designed the mural, and its color fill-in was provided by a group of students led by Nava Herstein ‘26 and Noy Luzon ‘27.
The next time you need a little light in your day, especially during finals week, take a break by this lovely piece of art. You’ll be glad you did.
