As a kid with three older siblings who attended Milken, I have been hearing about Homecoming from them for my entire short life. I heard stories about the game, the carnival, and the school spirit and the community. It interested and excited me, and I always wished I could go,
This year I finally got my chance. I attended not just as a student, but as a reporter from the Roar.
First there was the game. Our opponent? Mojave High School. The final score was 55-18. It was one of the strongest wins in Milken history.
“Feeling good. 27 to six, the quarterback is doing incredible.” said Mr. Brandon Plush, 8th Grade English teacher, at the end of the second quarter.
“Number 55 taking it to the house again and again and again. I love it.” said Mr. Steven Scholz, 7th grade math teacher.
The end of the game was no different than the beginning. The Wildcats continued to score, and the game ended up being one of the best Milken has ever played.
Of course, the football game was just one of the many experiences at Homecoming. The carnival boasted many activities, like games, food, and even a dunktank, with 7th grade English teacher Ms. Daniels, more commonly known as “Mama D.”
“It was exciting. It was so much fun to be part of the community and to be able to participate in what’s an important event each year at Milken, said Mama D about her time in the dunk tank.
“The first person that dunked me was (seventh grader) Noah Fauber, And then there were so many people that dunked me, I think I was constantly getting dunked, but she’s the first one I remember,” she said.
As much fun as the dunk tank was, it wasn’t Mama Ds’s favorite part.
I think the anticipation that was building up, we had, like, the town hall meeting to, like, get everybody excited about it. We had the different dress up days and spirit days. Everybody was just super excited. You could tell it was a big community event, and that got me excited as well.”
