With all the stress over college that comes being a senior, twelfth grade can be hard. Listed below are tips from seniors themselves about what they wish they knew about the college process and coming into senior year.

  1. Get your essays done early so you can focus on your grades.
  2. Have a calendar with specific goals to help manage time.
  3. Use the College Counseling Office as much as possible (the more you put in the more you get out). Don’t be afraid to ask questions!
  4. Attend the Summer Essay Writing Workshop. If you take it seriously, you could have your essays done by September.
  5. Try to really narrow down your list; you don’t really need to apply to 15+ schools. Visiting schools (ideally when school is in session) can help you do that.
  6. Don’t stress about the writing, one essay can be altered and applied to more than one school.
  7. If you can, apply Early Action for the schools that offer it. This way your chances will often increase and you will hear back sooner.
  8. Reach out to alumni or current students at the colleges you are really interested in. Talking with people who went through the same transition could be beneficial.
  9. Make sure you have good relationships with faculty.
  10. Don’t compare yourself to your classmates. Don’t let their lists intimidate you! Every person looks for something different.
