When thinking about sites in Israel, cities like Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Eilat are names that typically come to mind. So, when told that I would be going to Tel Gezer on our first Tiyul, field trip, I didn’t know what to expect.
At first glance, Tel Gezer seemed to solely be a couple of grassy hills containing certain ancient ruins. It wasn’t until Rona, my core curriculum teacher, stood on top of a hill that overlooks the Judean Mountains and explained to us the history of these ancient ruins, that I realized that we were sitting on years and years of history. What was most impactful was that I was in an area where events dating back all the way to the time of the binding of Isaac once took place.
This was only one of several similar experiences I’ve had so far in Israel. Having the opportunity to travel to various locations, which were unknown to me before, has truly opened my eyes to many new experiences. I can’t wait to continue on this journey for the next couple of months.
