After tying for first place in the Heritage League last year, the Milken’s Boys Basketball team moved up to the more challenging Delphic League. The harder competition has not phased the Wildcats, though, as they were victorious in their first four games this season.

The Wildcats took on Marshall to open up league play and won 51-37. Zachary Miller ’13 was unstoppable in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points with three three-pointers in a 52-second span.

“It was my best moment in Milken basketball. I was just happy I could contribute. I had been cold all game and my three threes with 14 overall in the 4th quarter helped us win, and that’s all I’m happy about,” said Miller.

Two days later, the team played an exciting and uptempo game against Kilpatrick. Although Kilpatrick only played six players, they held their own against the Wildcats before they eventually fell 63-55. Adam Treisman ’13 led the way with 27 points, the highest scoring game of the season for any member of the Wildcats.

“The game was just coming more naturally and my teammates were supporting me throughout the game. They were a strong athletic team, but we were able to exploit there weaknesses,” said Treisman.

The final game of the week was against Calvary Chapel Downey, where the Wildcats won 63-47. Andrew Gharabian ’13 started off the game on fire, scoring the team’s first eight points and eventually finishing with 15. Calvary Chapel Downey made a run at the end of the game, but Zachary Miller converted a three-point play with one minute left to put the game away.

The Wildcats took on Crossroads in their fourth league game. They were believed to be their toughest opponent. After a bad first quarter, the team turned it on and led comfortably the rest of the way to a decisive 61-47 victory. Zachary Miller led the way with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Justin Maddahi ’13 and Ariel Isaacson ’13 were sparks off the bench with multiple three pointers.

The team will look to continue their six game winning streak when it takes on California Academy of Math and Science on January 17th.
