The beginning of this school year captivated Wildcat fans as the Milken sports teams qualified for CIF playoffs in both football and volleyball. Looking forward to the Winter sports season, some of Milken’s elite teams are set to take to the court and build upon a great start to the year. Today we will preview the boy’s soccer team.
The predominantly younger boy’s soccer team has only four returning seniors this year, but do not lack talent. Shachar Astor ’13, Jamie Klein ’13, Jeremy Mintz ’13, and Goalie Harris Girocco ’13 will lead the boys on the pitch this year. Astor, a speedy midfielder, anticipates building on a successful last season, in which the Wildcats finished 9-5-3 and made CIF playoffs.
“We lost a lot of seniors last year, but we have been working really hard this year and I know we have a lot of talented players. I think it will be a very promising season,“ Astor said.
Some of the notable younger players include sophomore Brandon Yeshoua ’15, an offensive threat who will likely lead the wildcats in scoring. Another rising sophomore, Ari Wininger ’15 will have a big impact on defense before he departs for Tiferet halfway through the year.
As head Coach Ryan Hosler enters his fourth season with the team, he can expect this year to be unique. Tali Stern, a former member of the girl’s squad will now play with the boys. The girl’s were unable to field a team due to a low turnout.
The team opens its season against Pacific Hills on Tuesday, November 27th.
