Ms. Robbins

The Q+A- two students, two faculty members, each month. This month we sat down with Ms. Samantha Robbins, director of alumni relations.

Common misconception about teachers: That we are oblivious to your shenanigans… we know what’s up!

Most creative gift, given or received: A friend of mine is a Penn State alumnus and a HUGE Joe Paterno fan. I was able to have JoePa sign and personalize a Penn State football. My friend still says it is the best gift he has ever received. Mind you this all happened in 2008, before the recent scandal.

Movie you’ve seen the most: Dirty Dancing – every time it is on TV I have to watch until the very end to see Patrick Swayze say “Nobody puts Baby in the Corner!” and the final dance (which I have been known to do in my living room).

Book you’ve read most:  Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom (a Brandeis alum) and Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, and All Things Glamour by Rachel Zoe and Rose Apodaca.

Fictional character you identify with: Carrie Bradshaw from “Sex and the City” –we are both fiercely loyal to our girlfriends, we’re in love with New York City and our closets are struggling to support our shoe addictions. I’ve also been rocking the signature nameplate since 1992.

Obsolete item you won’t trash: My personalized Nevada license plates that read “BOSOXFN.”

What you wanted to be at age 10: Pediatrician.

Student pet peeve: Missing meetings and not replying with quote on emails.

Procrastination technique: Playing Words with Friends with aforementioned Penn State friend.

Secret hobby: Singing in the shower.

Favorite historical figure: Martin Luther King.

Favorite piece of art in your home/anywhere: A black and white picture of Fenway Park that friend of mine photographed and framed for me.

Movie star you always wanted to be: The movie “Clueless” came out when I was in high school and I really wanted to be Alicia Silverstone… I’m pretty sure I decided to go blond because of that character.

Favorite gadget: My Sonicare toothbrush – it makes me feel like I just came home from the dentist and keeps my teeth pearly white.

Topic you love but won’t discuss at a party: A party in this town? Gotta be the Boston Celtics.

The last meal you had: I’m sure it was a salad… it’s always salad.

Funniest English word(s): Doppelganger.

Most memorable teaching experience: When I was 16 I life guarded and taught swim lessons. Seeing those little kids swim the length of the pool after being scared to even get in the water was amazing!

Most visited website, why: Nordstrom.com – I heart shoes!!!

Favorite cancelled-too-soon TV show: Friday Night Lights (clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose) and Arrested Development (Gob is the funniest character ever!).

Most beloved/interesting item at your office desk: A ticket stub from a Chargers/Patriots game. I am a huge Pats fan and my brother surprised me with a ticket.
