For the past several months, Milken has hosted several events to assist SOVA, a Jewish organization that aims to rebuild satiability for the homeless by providing food, shelter and assistance for finding employment.

Events for Thanksgiving were implemented to collect food cans for the homeless. This year, Milken raised around 180 cans and 12 turkeys. Ms. Noa Schecter and Mr. Kvit Limkrailassiri’s advisories collectively raised a total of 112 cans and12 turkeys, along with additional money. Ms. Amy Frangipane’s advisory collected a respectable 36 cans. Between November 28 and December 1, Milken collected cans as the price for admission to Coach Whiting’s basketball game. The price for entry to the game was two cans donated to SOVA.

Additionally, December saw Milken’s eleventh graders visit the SOVA service site during their Shabbaton. Milken also held a toy drive to provide children with gifts during the holidays.

Given the past years’ poor economy and resulting increase in homelessness, students have found that it is important to give back to the community. Our small efforts collectively make a difference that impacts lives and may mean a lot to those who have little.
