He is an actor, writer and comedian, and has most recently become a hip-hop artist. It does not get much better than that for Donald Glover fans, whose stage name is Childish Gambino.

His sold out concert on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Nokia Club in Downtown LA was the last stop on his “Sign-Up Tour.” This performance was solely a showcase of his music, unlike his “I Am Donald” tour this past spring, which featured a composition of Glover’s comedy and music. Needless to say, there was still an infinite amount of comedy intertwined in his performance through his lyrics.

Although his album “Camp” was yet to be released in stores, the audience was able to sing along to both his old and unreleased music.

The concert began with him performing some of his classic songs, such as “Freaks and Geeks,” “All of the Lights Remix” and “Do Ya Like.” Later the environment suddenly changed when scenes of forests and fires appeared on the screen and he transitioned into his new songs in “Camp.”

Gambino performed his well-known song “Bonfire” along with others, such as my personal favorite, “Heartbeat.” Unlike his previous music, the entirety of “Camp” is quite personal. Gambino’s rhymes range from family to friends to deep personal connections.

“Camp” shows a different side of Gambino, a more serious side. His concert left the audience applauding. We are all anxiously awaiting what this triple threat will produce in the near future.
