Our Staff
Alexandra Orbuch, Co-Editor-in-Chief
Alexandra Orbuch is currently a senior at Milken. She began working on the Ramaz newspaper, the Ramaz Rampage, as a freshman and is now the Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Roar. Alexandra also serves as Captain of the Mock Trial team, Director of Debate of the SoCal JSA, editor of Milken’s annual literary magazine, and treasurer of the Senior Student Council.
Emily Vanek, Co-Editor-in-Chief
Emily Vanek, a senior, is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Roar, having joined the staff as a freshman. She enjoys writing in such categories as Voices, Community, and Spotlight. She also plays on the Milken Tennis team, is Student Body Vice President, and enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family.
Julia Simon, Community Editor
Julia Simon is in her senior year of high school. She is happy to be a second-year Staff Writer and a first time Community Editor. She publishes articles that focus on a variety of topics, such as current events, Milken updates, and pop culture. In her free time, Julia enjoys playing with her two dogs, Kozmo and Jinger, and binge-watching TV shows on Netflix.
Jack Behar, Sports Editor
Jack Behar is Sports Editor of The Roar. He enjoys writing articles about politics, sports, and music. He hopes that he can provide insightful input on multiple topics and report the important news of the community. In his free time, Jack plays for the Milken volleyball team and is an avid music listener.
Rachel Leff, Entertainment Editor
Rachel Leff joined The Roar in her sophomore year of high school and is now the Entertainment Editor. She enjoys being able to write about current events both at Milken and in the surrounding community. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and playing with her dog, Snickers.
Mikayla Weissberg, Voices Editor
Mikayla Weissberg, Voices Editor, is currently a senior and in her second year on the staff of The Milken Roar. She writes about a variety of topics, although most often about politics and other charged issues. In her free time, she enjoys acting and going to concerts with her friends.
Natalie Tabibian, Spotlight Editor
Natalie Tabibian is a junior at Milken in her second year with The Roar. She is currently the Spotlight Editor and enjoys writing opinion pieces on politics and about the Milken community at large. She hopes to write a variety of articles this year. In her free time, Natalie enjoys watching the YouTube channel Bon Appetit, browsing Netflix, and spending time with her dog, Foxy.
Kayla Nickfardjam, Social Media Manager
Kayla Nickfardjam is a Junior and second-year Staff Writer and Social Media Manager for The Roar. Kayla enjoys writing articles about the Milken community, current events, and producing original video content. In her free time, Kayla also watches YouTube videos, draws, and explores Los Angeles with her friends.
Ari Karpel, Faculty Adviser
This is Mr. Karpel’s first year at Milken, where he also teaches English. He is a former journalist who specialized in writing about the entertainment industry, for such publications as Entertainment Weekly, The New York Times, The Advocate and Fast Company (perhaps his favorite interviews ever were with Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner; and Madonna). He lives in Hollywood with his husband, Alan, and their cat, Sigourney.
