SMC denies Milken students

In a disturbing trend revealed for the 2019-2020 application season, Santa Monica College has begun rejecting Milken students. Expectant future students were shocked upon receiving unprecedented letters of rejection from the community college. While the rest of the community struggles to comprehend the news, Milken’s College Counseling department has been conducting business as usual. They remarked that they have been expecting this for years, saying that the sheer number of applicants from Milken has given SMC the opportunity to begin selecting only Milken’s best and brightest to attend their school. And select they did — this year’s acceptance rate was even lower than those of UCLA and USC.

This year’s junior class is beginning to worry about what this means for next year. Will this be a recurring trend, or will SMC go back to being a reliable option for the Milken community? Expressing concern for his future, Jordan Feldman ‘20 remarked, “I just don’t know what I’m going to do. I’ve always thought of SMC as the place that would become my future home, and now I don’t even know if I’ll get in.” Other students fear this may endanger the rest of their high school experience, like Noah Gluck ‘20, who wrote in an email to The Roar, “Wait — does this mean I have to apply to college now?”

Parents, angered by the news, have struggled to find a new option for their children to begin their college experience. Sadly, deadlines have already passed for most four-year institutions, but the families and College Counseling department have luckily found a new school to replace Santa Monica College: Los Angeles City College has now become the future home of 57% of the Class of 2019. Good luck, future Cubs!
