Meet Coach Caitlin Rutherford, our new high school athletic trainer. Nicknamed “Smiley” by her high school friends, the California native is originally from Palm Springs and moved to Los Angeles nine years ago. Rutherford is the youngest of four sisters, which makes her the aunt to five nieces and nephews. In high school, like the Milken students she works with, Rutherford was involved in sports such as soccer, volleyball, and track. Her numerous athletic roles landed her “most athletic” and “most spirited” in her senior superlatives. As a high schooler, she was also known to be friendly with everybody on campus, which is something she has brought to the Milken campus. Upon moving to Los Angeles, Rutherford enrolled in Santa Monica College before ultimately transferring to Cal State Northridge. While working at Milken, Rutherford is simultaneously working towards her doctorate at the University of Idaho in athletic training. When she has some free time, Rutherford enjoys hiking with her two huskies, and playing coed flag football and soccer. She has been involved in athletic training for three years, but has just started teaching PE classes.
