The clothes, the models, the runway shows, the star-studded streets, the exciting debut of fresh new talent. From September 4-11, New York Fashion Week swept the globe with its display of fresh designs from many of the world’s leading brands. Pictures were shared on Instagram, articles were posted on Facebook, and Snapchat users even had the ability to see live footage of the shows. From ridiculous to revolutionary, here are five important things that happened at New York Fashion Week:
1) Miley Cyrus x Jeremy Scott
When it came to making artwork and accessories for her pal Jeremy Scott’s runway show, Miley Cyrus’ creativity really could not be tamed. She claims to have spent over $2000 at Walmart in the process…‘nough said.
2) Jimmy Kimmel’s “Lie Witness News,” NYFW Edition
Remember when Jimmy Kimmel made up a bunch of bands and asked Coachella-goers their opinion on them? Well, he did the same thing at New York Fashion Week with designer names and trends, and the footage is hilarious. Fooled you, fashionistas.

3) The 4-D Runway Show
Sure, there were a lot of amazing runway setups during Fashion Week, but Ralph Lauren took it to another level. For his new women’s polo line, Lauren held his show in Central Park. Instead of a traditional catwalk, holograms of models and the designer himself were projected.

4) Marc Jacobs Goes Makeup-Free
Probably the most refreshing runway show at New York Fashion Week was the Marc Jacobs show. The models were sent down the runway with no makeup at all, the only altered part of their appearance being their shaggy, short black wigs. This definitely made a statement and stood as a ray of light in the endless cycle of makeup and hair that is the modeling industry. Finally, a fashion show entirely focused on the actual clothing.
5) Quadruple Amputee Walks the Runway
The most inspiring and moving show was held by designer Carrie Hammer. A few years ago, Karen Crespo discovered she had a severe case of bacterial meningitis. Four of her limbs had to be amputated in order for her to stay alive, and since then Crespo has had to live with a body that is nearly unrecognizable. Carrie Hammer chose to entitle her show “Role Models, Not Runway Models”, and decided that Karen Crespo would be just right. The designer also helped Crespo obtain a new set of prosthetics for the show. Upon walking the runway, Crespo says she gained a new sense of self confidence and has “a totally different perspective on things”.
