Here is my list of the top 5 movies to see (or not to see) this summer:
1. Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel brings us another sure-fire blockbuster hit with the Guardians of the Galaxy. The film is based on the adventures of a group of 5 misfit aliens in search of stealing a very powerful orb. Packed with an exciting and hilarious cast, including Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper and John C. Reilly, this movie looks like it will be a great addition to the Marvel canon of summer films. Also, the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy is ridiculously hilarious and features an awesome soundtrack. I mean, c’mon, there is a vicious raccoon with a machine gun.
2. Edge of Tomorrow
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw61gCe2oqI
This epic action sci-fi flick looks to put a fresh twist on the overused alien invasion storyline. With the tagline “Live.Die.Repeat.”, Edge of Tomorrow tells the story of Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt attempting to defend earth from an alien invasion through Cruise being trapped in a time loop. Director Doug Liman has always found a unique and original way to go about his films, from the Bourne films to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, so look for more of the same. Edge of Tomorrow already boasts very positive reviews, so look for this one to be a potential summer hit.
3. 22 Jump Street

21 Jump Street was one of the funniest and best movies of 2012. This summer, look for Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill’s return for the second installment in the Jump Street franchise. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller look to deliver to fans another crazy fun movie in 21 Jump Street. If you are looking for a few giggles, check out 22 Jump Street which I believe will be Summer 2014’s funniest and most fun blockbuster hit.
4. How to Train Your Dragon 2

Four years later, Dreamworks delivers the sequel everyone has been waiting for. How to Train Your Dragon was one of Dreamwork’s best animated films and one of the best animated films overall in recent history. While it may seem that a sequel is unnecessary, early reviewers say that the movie is just as spectacular and fun as its predecessor. How to Train Your Drago 2 is the best animated movie to see this summer (as opposed to Planes: Fire And Rescue. Please don’t see Planes: Fire And Rescue).
5. The Fault In Our Stars
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ItBvH5J6ss
The book, proclaimed “the greatest love story of the decade” by Entertainment Weekly, gets a film adaptation. The story follows two cancer-ridden teens as they fall in love. Shailene Woodley, Hazel Grace, is a rising star, appearing in a bunch of top-notch movies over the past few years. If you want a reason to go indoors and cry, go see The Fault In Our Stars.
Dishonorable Mentions:
– Transformers: Age of Extinction
– The Purge: Anarchy
– Planes: Fire And Rescue (Just don’t see it. Please. For me.)
