The Q+A- two students, two teachers, each month. This month I sat down with Milken’s most mysterious English teacher Mr.Martin.
What would you be doing if you weren’t a teacher?
I would be a reindeer rancher in New Zealand.
Where is the most interesting place you’ve ever visited? Why?
Dawson City in the Utah territory because I canoed the Yukon River (celebrating the Yukon). I sat down and while having a beer and playing poker, some guy rode his horse into the bar.
What made you want to become a teacher?
I liked to read and talk about books, and dealing with goofy teenagers and coaching sounded like a pretty cool job.
What is your biggest fear?
Premature burial.
If you were stuck on an island what 5 things would you bring with you?
My dog, my smoker, the collective works of Herman Melville, my ukulele, and a portrait of Milken’s math department.
Any secret talents or hobbies?
Running the best steakhouse in L.A.
Who is your celebrity crush?
Hillary Clinton.
First/Favorite concert you went to?
Playboy Jazz Festival.
What is your favorite movie? Why?
‘Lonesome Dove’ – How can you beat cattle drives, pigs, pretty girls, a mean Native American, and the gorgeous landscape plus Augustus and Woodrow?

Favorite High school memory?
Attending funeral procession and funeral… for Winston Churchill.
Most embarrassing High school memory?
Receiving corporal punishment during the first night of boarding school.

A psychiatrist.
