This is the second part of a four-part series on the election results for Student Government and Class Council.
The wait is over. The 10th Grade Student Council has officially been elected. Over the past few months, students have put up countless posters in an effort to win as many votes as possible. On Wednesday, September 25th, the tenth grade voted. Here are the results:
10th Grade Student Council:
President – Aviva Fallas
Executive Vice President – Oliver Pourbaba
VP of Service – Lily Morris
VP of Jewish Affairs – Noa Rubin/Sophie Lainer
VP of Finance – Aviv Segev
VP of School Functions – Gabi Nehorayan
VP of Environmental Care – Saman Hagitat
We sat down with President Aviva Fallas and Vice President Oliver Pourbaba. Check out the exclusive Q&A below.
What’s your favorite thing about each other?
Oliver: She’s crazy smart
Aviva: Thank you. And he’s just crazy.
What’s one thing you always keep in your backpack?
Oliver: Milken Mart card and Smart water.
Why did you decide to run?
Aviva: I was on class council last year so I want to fix all of our mistakes.
Oliver: I want to make a difference.
What do you plan to do this year?
Aviva: Well, coming up, we plan to sell lemonade for breast cancer awareness.
Oliver: We are going to add a DJ speaker to our area. We’re going to have our own music. We have a lot of ideas, but Aviva probably doesn’t want me to [say] because it’s going to be a surprise.
How was the campaigning process?
Aviva: There was some tough competition. I didn’t end up making any posters; it was part of my strategy.
Oliver: I had 148 posters around the school.
We heard from some people that they found the posters uncomfortable to look at while using the bathroom.
Oliver: It was the strategy. I had a picture of me with Dr. Evil. There was a Lilo & Stich one, a Phineas and Ferb one, Spongebob and Patrick.
What inspired you to use these characters?
Oliver: I wanted it to be a funny; a positive campaign.
What’s your favorite place at Milken?
Aviva: Our grade area.
Oliver: The Milken Mart.
Did Noam Fields-Meyer’s prominent posters scare you, Aviva?
Aviva: Oh for sure. He did so much more campaigning than me, so I just focused on making the best speech possible.
Do you guys have any previous experience in leadership?
Oliver: It’s my first year.
Aviva: He walked in the first day and said, “I have so many ideas!”
What’s one thing you want to see happen by the end of the year?
Oliver: When people hear about a Student Council, I want them to get excited.
Aviva: I want to have at least 5 or 6 events, instead of 2, like last year.
Oliver: I want to raise $10,000 for prom by the end of this year.
Aviva: That’s impressive. But we can do it.
Any final words to your voters?
Oliver: You won’t regret this.
Aviva: Thank you.
