Three years ago, Milken’s Baseball team was a powerhouse in the CIF Championship game. This season, the team has less players than the golf team. However, there is little reason to be worried as the team is confident they will have a successful season.

Led by senior captains Jonah Resnick ’13 and Mitchell Mayer ’13, the team has just enough of the right pieces to have a good year.

“This season is going to be tough. With just over nine players, shoulders are going to get tired. But with the determination that each pitcher has, this season should be fun and successful,” Resnick said.

Steve Garren took over as the head coach, as Chris Scarlata stepped down to become the Director of Student Life and Educational Technology of the middle school. Despite the change, the team feels no different.

“Coach Garren brings a lot of positive energy and an expansive knowledge of baseball. I think he was the best choice for the future of our rising program,” Mayer said.

Resnick added, “Coach Garren has been a great addition to the team this year. As we focus on details more now, we noticed that our execution of plays has increased.”

After losing nearly all of the pitchers from last year’s team, Resnick will be asked to pitch several innings, many on consecutive days. Joe Paller ’16 and Will Zuckerman ’13 will also pitch in some games. Harris Girocco ’13 will be behind the plate catching throughout the season.

On the offensive side, Mayer and Sammy Lawrence ’14 will lead a group of young hitters looking to put many runs on the board. Returning players Omer Waisburd ’13 and Noah Mintz ’14 will also look to contribute.
