It’s that time of the year again:  The annual Milken Community Schools fashion show, Fashion With Compassion, is here.

Fashion With Compassion is a student-organized event that includes a pop-up boutique with incredible products to purchase and a fashion show comprised of party outfits, fitness wear, and casual day-to-day looks. This year’s committee is led by Desiree Shadi ’16, Chloe Sabbah ’17, and Alliyah Farahi ’18. The money collected from the event will go to Orr Shalom for Children and Youth at Risk. Orr Shalom is a Jewish non-profit organization which helps the children of Israel who live in unstable households by providing them with sources of physical and emotional support.

For the very first time, Fashion With Compassion will be held at the Milken Community High School. It will be located in Hollander Gym on Sunday, March 20th. The doors will open at 12:30 and the boutique will be from 1:00 to 2:00. Then, the show will start at 2:00 and after there will more more time to shop at the boutique from 3:00 to 4:00. Ticket prices range from $25-$50 depending on when you purchase them and what kind of tickets you buy. The tickets for faculty and staff as well as students are $25. VIP Admission pre-sale is $50 and General Admission pre-sale is $30. If you buy tickets at the door, only General Admission tickets are available at the price of $40. If you are  unable to attend the show, donations can be made online through Milken’s website.

Q & A with Chloe Sabbah ‘17, Alliyah Farahi ‘18, and Desiree Shadi ‘16, committee heads:

Q: Why should people attend Fashion with Compassion?

Chloe: “People should come support Fashion With Compassion because it’s more than just a fashion show. It’s where the community comes together to raise money for an amazing cause.”

Q: What are some brands that will be featured at the event?

Chloe: “This year we have amazing vendors such as Ruby and Stella, Yoga Smoga, M. Cohen and many more.”

Q: Any other special and interesting information about Fashion With Compassion this year?

Chloe: “Additionally, this year we have over 100 student models, more than we have ever had. See you there!”

Q: What made you want to be involved in Fashion With Compassion?

Alliyah: “I went to my first Fashion with Compassion show when I was either 8 or 9, and I remember walking out of the show thinking it was the coolest thing in the world that a bunch of high schoolers could pull that off. When I was a freshman, I was super eager to join the committee and make the show happen. I think Fashion with Compassion is an extremely unique type of service learning. Unlike other sorts of service learning events, with Fashion with Compassion you learn lifelong skills about how to be professional and you gain confidence to confront people you don’t know, whether it’s to ask for a donation or just in a friendly way.”

Q: What opportunities has Fashion With Compassion given you?

Desiree: “Fashion with compassion gives me the opportunity to combine my love for fashion with the skills of leadership and event planning. It has taught me how to interact with real companies and vendors on a professional level. I really feel like I am working in the actual industry.”
