The Milken boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams traveled to Orlando, Florida December 25 to 31 to compete in the KSA tournament, which took place December 26 to 30. The KSA, which hosts high school teams from all around the country, supports not only athletic participation but also the educational aspects of it.

Among the coaches who attended the tournament were basketball coaches Mike Whiting, Coach Tony Runestad, Alan Mont, and Danny Harold, Director of Physical Education at the elementary school.

The boys, competing in the Independence Bracket, finished sixth out of eight by winning one game and losing two. The girls’ team, also coming out of the tournament with one win and two losses, finished seventh out of eight in the Liberty Bracket.

The school’s basketball teams have attended the tournament once before; two years ago was the first time the teams had traveled outside of California for a sporting event. Since the teams are allowed to travel every two years, they decided to attend again this year.

In addition to participating in the tournament, the teams enjoyed other sites in Orlando, including Disneyworld, Downtown Disney, and Universal City Walk. Universal Studios was also closed down for a night and offered only to athletes participating in the KSA tournament.

Overall, regardless of their losses, the athletes had an enjoyable time on the trip during their last week of winter break.
